An expandable, parametric Glockenspiel!
The last few days I spent making a microtonal Glockenspiel, I've parameterised the model, which means I can input a different width/thickness of the bar, enter the type of scale or frequency, and the length of the bars and placements of the node points will be calculated automatically, and the model updated. This is really handy for prototyping where you don't know what the final object will be made out of, or size/dimensions of material at hand. This parametric model makes it easy to change the dimensional values at the end stage of the design.

This model also adapts to different materials. I spent a night doing a little bit of confusing maths and dimensional analysis to obtain correct and predictable results, this little bit of hard work has enabled to change the materials of the design at will, you just need two pieces of information; the Density of the material and Young's Modulus, which is the stiffness of the material. These pieces of information are easy to obtain, however complex one may sound! 
After making the parametric model, I've experimented different note placings, and designs for the note holder. Some more whacky than others!
Here's some of my simple first attempts. Initial feedback was the curvy pieces look a little busy!
After 2d, I started exploring what it would look like to spread the bars in 3d dimensions...
These pictures works in progress. I'm not happy with a few aspects of this design, namely the bar spacing, and the wobbly curves of the spiral, I think a smooth curve would work more effectively. I also need to figure out how the inner elevated spiral will support itself.
I hope you enjoy! And stay tuned for more experiments! After creating this model I really want to play about with making a string sculpture based around some interesting form, maybe smash a hyperbolic paraboloid and a harp together and make a Harparabolid?
